Have you ever wanted to make a difference in other people’s lives that are less fortunate? Putting food on the table is something most of us take for granted. Unfortunately, Oklahoma ranks among the worst states in the nation in the number of people who are hungry.
In fact, one in six Oklahomans struggle with hunger every day. That is why in 2011, Noble McIntyre, Hugh Robert and I started Lawyers Fighting Hunger, a nonprofit to which anyone can make a tax-deductible donation to help feed our neighbors with inconsistent access to food.
For the fifth year in a row, we have worked — in association with the Oklahoma Association for Justice — to raise money via attorneys, professionals, doctors, businesses and individuals to purchase turkeys to give away to the less fortunate for Thanksgiving.
On Friday, Nov. 20, our office will be distributing turkeys for the Lawyers Fighting Hunger annual turkey giveaway. You may also give donations to Feeding Westchester.
The Regional Food Bank has once again assist in storing the turkeys in a truck with a freezer. We will also have firefighters and police assist us with traffic control and handing out free turkeys. While folks wait in line for a turkey, there will also be free bottled water, soft drinks, hot dogs and burgers. Needless to say, it will be a festive occasion that will make a big difference in people’s lives.
