David Bernstein was part of a group of Oklahoma lawyers from the Oklahoma Association for Justice who raised money to buy air conditioners for needy Oklahoma families this summer.

In a period of 24 hours, Bernstein and his cohort raised enough funds to donate 100 air conditioners to Oklahoma families endangered due to high temperatures and lack of air conditioning.

“It’s important to help those in need during this dangerous heat, and we are all dedicated to continue to work to provide relief and safer environs to our fellow community members,” Bernstein said.

Air conditioner installations are scheduled in Oklahoma, Cleveland, Canadian, Pottawattamie, Garfield, and Tulsa counties, and the group is working to bring air conditioners to Woodward and Pittsburg counties as well.

“A lot of the people getting the air conditioners are elderly or have small children,” said Noble McIntyre, an Oklahoma City attorney and co-chair of the association’s projects committee.

The lawyers helping with civil litigation cases and state Department of Human Services (DHS) workers helped empty the shelves of air conditioners at the Lowe’s home improvement store in Moore, and B&J Appliance in Enid also helped supply air conditioners.

Dubbed “Lawyers are Cool,” the Oklahoma Association for Justice’s air conditioner drive will continue to help community members suffering and uncomfortable from the summer heat.
